Meet Your Chief Steward: Carrie Genereux (she/they)

Hello, Local 517 family! My name is Carrie, and I'm proud to be serving as your Chief Steward!

My Day Job and Union Commitment

  • My Role at the County: I work as a Family Service Worker in Child Protection. In this role, I am committed to supporting community well-being and advocating for the families we serve every day. I’ve been working at Washington County for nearly 5 years and I love being a part of this team. My commitment to community extends further than my “day job” and union participation though; I’m also a co-chair for the Pride ERG and a DEI Trainer!
  • Why I’m in the Union: For me, being in AFSCME isn't just about a responsibility; it's about power in community. I believe deeply that our collective strength is the most effective way to create a workplace that is not only fair and safe but also one that truly serves all of our members and the public with equity and dignity. As an advocate, I see the union as a critical tool for mutual aid and ensuring workers have a seat at the table.
  • My Lens: I approach this work through an intersectional, anti-racist, and trauma-informed perspective, recognizing that true justice and fairness for one of us means justice and fairness for all of us.
